New spots waiting to become your running favorites!
Whether you’re staying for six months or visiting for a few days, Barcelona makes it easy to stay in shape. With so many outdoor arenas to boost your physical and mental health, finding new spots to run in the city is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Here are 5 spots waiting to become your running favorite!
1. Parc de la Ciutadella
Parc de la Ciutadella is complete with a large fountain, a massive staircase to trailblaze up and down, winding pathways, and a straight path from the zoo to the Arc de Triomf. Or the other way around to the beach, Parc de la Ciutadella is easily your new favorite exercise location. Stop at the top of the fountain for some added cardio, crunches, jumping jacks, or planks (you won’t be alone).
2. The Beach
With a path that extends as far as the eye can see in both directions, running enthusiasts are thrilled when they jog across this sweet setup.
Check out the views of the beach, part of the old town, the port, and the clubbing district, Barceloneta beach offers fitness lovers and casual strollers alike a scenic route to remember. Careful though, you’ll be sharing this path with bikes, scooters, roller blades, strollers, and many small dogs.
3. Montjuic Mountain
A multi-tiered mountain (for various levels of runners), Montjuic is located close enough to the center of the city for a great run but far enough away that you will feel the workout the next morning.
With sites like the National Museum of Art d’ Catalunya, the Miro museum, natural parks, Montjuic Cemetery, the Olympic Stadium, Palau Sant Jordi, and the Castle all the way at the top; a good, morning run can quickly become an all day affair.
4. Carrer de La Marina
Who can resist casually passing by Sagrada Familia on their afternoon run?
Climbing straight from the beach to the famous Barcelona landmark, Carrer de La Marina is a straight shot to Sagrada Familia with a slight incline to tone those quads. Directly in front of Sagrada is a lush, green park where you can stop for crunches, photos, or a quick ice cream reward.
One of the highest points overlooking the city of Barcelona, Tibidabo is home to a beautiful church, a mini amusement park, and is easily accessible by beautiful trails through the mountainside.
PS. This is a trail for more advanced runners as it will take more time but it’s definitely worth the adventure.
