Tour Inside House Museum of Prince Sergey Volkonsky In Irkutsk, Siberia

In a failed Decembrist revolt, Sergey Volkonsky spent 30 years in political exile. This house retells the story of his Siberian lifestyle.

House Museum of Prince Sergey Volkonsky belonged to a Decembrist Count and his wife Maria Volkonskaya who was the main character in the novel, The Princess of Siberia.

This was where the Volkonskys lived during exile in 1825, now a museum highlighting what used to be the core of Irkutsk culture and life of elites. Inside, the family hosted balls, musical parties attended by high-ranking officials and wealthy merchants. At the end of the museum tour, there’s also a live classical music concert accompanied with champagne. 

The exterior of the house might appear unassuming in modern days, but there’s a vast garden for photo opportunities and a quick stroll.
