The Lumiares Hotel & Spa is chic, stylish respite in the heart of Lisbon.
Located right below São Pedro de Alcântara in Bairro Alto, The Lumiares Hotel & Spa offers travelers an opportunity to enjoy the most authentic and artistic version of Lisbon.
THE HOTEL
The Lumiares Hotel & Spa stands tall and pretty in Bairro Alto, right at the center of all the buzz and nightlife of Lisbon. The building is an old palace of an 18th century count which has been converted to a chic 47-room boutique hotel. As soon as you walk into the swish atrium, past the hipster Rebel Café on the ground floor, you will feel as if you’ve become part of the “IN” crowd immediately. Everything is glossy and radiates effortless cool, from the immaculately polished geometric floors to the striking triptych tapestries that hang on the lobby walls.

The Lumiares is a love letter to Lisbon. Because if there was ever a city which deserves a thousand love letters, it’s the Portuguese capital. The Lumiares is a “homage to Lisbon’s colors, patterns and light.” The design concept was inspired by the vibrant bohemian spirit of Bairro Alto. Everything in the hotel was thoughtfully created and curated by local artisans, to showcase the immense artistry which resides in Lisbon. Almost all of the furniture, art, textiles and room amenities were designed and manufactured in Portugal, within 500 km from the property. The Lumiares Hotel truly is a one-of-a-kind space where guests can experience the best of Portuguese creativity and design.

THE ROOMS

The rooms at The Lumiares are outfitted to feel more like apartment homes than hotel rooms. All apartments come with a kitchenette equipped with Nespresso machine, top-of-the-line electric stove, Smeg kettle, toaster and mini-fridge. Plus, the complimentary mini-bar stocked with mini bottles of wine and refreshments is sure to make your day. The rooms are very comfy-chic, featuring clean minimalist furnishings with bold geometric accents to make the space pop. All the rooms have quaint balconies facing out to the streets of Lisbon where guests can enjoy the hustle and bustle of Bairro Alto.

The smallest room category is a very comfortable studio, which comes with ample lounge space and even a dining table set up. The One Bedroom Suites come with a separate living area along with a kitchenette. The Glória Suite is an amped-up version of the one-bedroom suite, as it features an extended kitchenette with large counter in the middle, from which you can eat and/or work. The Lumiares Hotel is a great choice for families thanks to the spaciousness of the larger options available, including the two-bedroom suites, mezzanine and three penthouse apartments. The soaring ceilings make each unit feel even bigger than they already are as well.
The bathrooms are a real delight: bright, sleek and luminous with a luxurious walk-in shower and signature azulejo tiles. Delicious bath amenities by local skincare brand, Benamôr, are placed in the bathrooms. The creamy body butters, soaps and hair products consist of sweet, floral fragrances that will make you want to take as many amenities home from Benamôr as possible.

THE SPA

The petite boutique hotel packs a punch with the full-service spa located on the ground floor of the hotel. Just like the rest of the hotel, the spa is chic and design-forward. The dim, earth-tone treatment rooms are a serene oasis that will make you forget that you are in the busiest part of central Lisbon. The spa menu has a comprehensive selection of massage therapies and facials, the majority of which cost less than 100 euros. The spa also includes a sauna and steam room open until 8 PM. Plus the gym is open 24 hours, which we always love!

THE RUMI ROOFTOP BAR & RESTAURANT
It would be remiss not to say that Lumi Rooftop Bar and Restaurant is the crown jewel of The Lumiares Hotel. Considering it has one of the most spectacular rooftop views in Lisbon, stretching from the Castelo de São Jorge to Chiado, with clear views of the electric blue Tagus River, it’s not hard to see why both locals and hotel guests fight over tables at Lumi on the daily.

Lumi is a full-service bar and restaurant which cranks out fabulous cocktails and yummy snacks day and night. Lumi is where hotel guests go for breakfast to start their day and is also one of the hottest brunch spots in Lisbon. Their brunch menu is perfectly curated for the trendy Instagram set, featuring acai bowls, smoked salmon sandwiches and of course, avocado toast. Lumi has got you covered if you get hungry at any moment of the day from 12:30 PM to midnight. Everyone will find a crowd-pleaser that they love on the all-day menu, whether it’s the spicy chicken wings, burrata salad, mushroom burger, hummus or even a sirloin steak.

Lumi’s signature cocktails are absolutely divine. All the tipples on the short but sweet cocktail menu are perfectly balanced with fresh floral notes, many featuring local Portuguese ingredients. The must-try items are the Lumi Negroni made with Madeira and Portuguese vermouth and PORT by The Vintage featuring white port, St. Germain, pineapple and a cumin and rosemary infusion. The bar also has a super impressive wine list with over 50 wines, ranging from affordable to rare and fancy. The wine menu consists of largely Portuguese wines, so take the opportunity to try unique local wines from Douro, Alentej, Beiras and even Lisbon!
