Why Antibes Is The Best Hidden Gem In The French Riviera

Antibes is made for the low-key travelers who adore gorgeous beaches and deliciously fresh seafood.

Antibes, France

When one thinks of the French Riviera, the most popular destinations that come to mind are typically: Nice, Cannes or St. Tropez. For an off-the-beaten-path experience, Antibes is the way to go.

The idea of Côte d’Azur, or the French Riviera, normally encompasses blue skies accompanied by over-priced champagne on yachts. If you want to throw down a few grand during a one-week vacation, then St. Tropez or Cannes might be up your alley. But for the more relaxing vibe without pretentiousness or the often irritating ostentatiousness, Antibes is truly ideal.

Snuggled between Nice and Cannes, Antibes is made for the low-key travelers who adore gorgeous beaches and deliciously fresh seafood. So fresh that they seem to still wiggle in your mouth. Antibes isn’t bargain territory, but travelers won’t be gauged for nonsense. Because it’s such a hidden gem, it’s also made for families who want to feel safe and enjoy a charming vacation especially during summertime.

The area surrounding Plage de la Gravette is our top favorite, for the fine art of French leisure. Boating, sunbathing, sightseeing, museum-gawking, indulging on fresh organic sorbet are just a few must-do’s. If you’re used to guarding your bags like a paranoid traveler in Paris or Barcelona, Antibes gets rid of such worry. There’s no sense of trying too hard to impress, everyone is here with an easygoing and “let your guard down” attitude.

Try to spend a week in Antibes, then rent a boat to visit Nice, Cannes, or St. Tropez for accessible day trips. Enjoy the sun, the tranquil ambiance, do Antibes before it becomes the next crowded French Riviera destination. That’s our personal take!
