Hvar is LIT! The most popular island in Croatia among celebrities and VIP guests is filled with beach clubs, mouthwatering seafood restaurants, and spellbinding moments by the Adriatic Sea. Whether you’re gonna superyacht or not, here’s a quick and easy list to follow for the most unforgettable must-do’s.
1. EAT: Gariful
Gariful is probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Hvar, but it’s well worth it for its fantastic seafood, and posh waterfront setting on the terrace. The luxurious menu includes Catch of the Day in the utmost premium quality and grilled or boiled lobster presented in the most stunning fashion that will leave your mouth water. The small family-run business has an exclusive reputation that draws celebrities, including: Demi Moore, Prince Harry, Giorgio Armani. Gariful’s exciting energy shines through in its fresh and luscious servings consumed in a swanky ambiance.
2. DO: Beach Club Hvar
Hitting up a beach club in Hvar is a total must. There are different ones at various price range. For 325 kunas, you can get a sun bed and a table at my personal favorite Beach Club Hvar, formerly known as Bonj ‘les bains’, which is probably the most exclusive choice. Chill out and dip in the sparkling aqua, there’s no better place to lounge with a cocktail in the sun.
3. EAT: Dalmatino
Dalmatino is so charming that it’ll melt your heart. Another family-run business, the restaurant is located in the house where owner Denise (and his brother) grew up. Many recipes actually come from their grandmother’s kitchen. Both a seafood and a steak house, Dalmatino reinterprets traditional Croatian dishes into refined plates of exquisite goodness. This food experience in midst of a hidden alley will surely be a trip’s highlight.
4. SEE: Hvar Fortress
Fortress in Hvar, Croatia (map)
For the most beautiful view in Hvar, you’ve gotta hike up to the main fortress which was built when the island was ruled by the Venetians. The city walls is a defense symbolism back in 1278. But in 1571, a new fortress was built replacing the old one to protect the island from Turkish invasion. It’s quite a hike up to the fortress, and to avoid massive tourists, either visit early in the morning or right before it closes.
5. DRINK: Live up the epic nightlife scene
Hvar’s nightlife scene is famous around the world. Beach parties and waterfront soirees will go on all night long. Hula Hula, Carpe Diem and Kiva Bar are some hardcore stops that’ll guaranteed to be lit.
6. DO: Alley Strolls
Get lost! Wander around! Hvar is filled with charming alleys that will make you feel like you’re literally walking through a dream. Lose yourself in these windy streets where you’ll com across monasteries, cathedrals, and awesome shops!
7. EAT: Giaxa
Giaxa is another very posh scene situated in Hvar’s alluring passageways. Some must-eat dishes include: Grilled Octopus with Crispy Salads, Beef Carpaccio with Black Truffles and Parmigiano, and Dalmatian Brodeto (fish stew.) There are three choices of seating: a 15th century Venetian noble’s family palace in Late Gothic style in the interior, outdoor terrace in the courtyard, or in midst of old walls in the romantic pathway.
8. DO: Rent a boat!
Renting a boat is a total must! There are different kinds of tours offered throughout various kiosks. You can do a Three Caves Tour, rent out a yacht or just hire a skipper which is what we did. Sunny weather, blue skies, renting a speedboat is the best way to spend a day.
