Island East Market is open every Sunday.

Although Hong Kong has always offered traditional markets including produce stands, Western-style farmer’s markets offering organic goods and artisanal merchandise are starting to pop up around the city. The markets seek to bring high quality products to Hong Kong with the personal touch of local vendors. The largest market, Island East Market in the Quarry Bay neighborhood, opened in September and attracts local residents as well as visitors from further destinations in Hong Kong. The market takes place every Sunday from 10am-5pm.

Customers enjoy the selection of organic produce, meat, wine, baked goods, and handmade products. Look out for vendors such as Tai Tai Pie Pies selling sweet, savory pies, and quiches including prosciutto-wrapped fig pie. Reed’s Ginger Brews, which makes sodas out of natural ingredients. The market also offers entertainment with musicians and a bouncy castle. Vendors are friendly, eager to chat with customers about their products and offer samples. The market is an ideal place to spend an afternoon wandering around, tasting different stands and make purchases before lunch at one of the nearby restaurants.

Other farmer’s markets to check out in Hong Kong include the Organic Farmers’ Market @ Central, Mei Foo Farm Fest, and Tuen Mun Farmer’s Market.
Island East Market is located at Tong Chung Street, TaiKoo Place, Quarry Bay.
