Caipirinha is non-pretentious, easy to make, and absolutely delicious!
Brazil has a lot of things going for it – Carnival, double-rainbow-level views, and the world’s most coveted booties, to name a few. The Brazilians came together to full-on win at everything when they invented the Caipirinha, their national cocktail. The drink is non-pretentious, easy to make, and absolutely delicious. The process of making it is similar preparing a mojito, which means that as long as you have something to muddle with, you’re good to go.
The Caipirinha cannot exist without the essential ingredient: Cachaça. No Cachaça, no Caipirinha. And what is this not-so-secret ingredient? Cachaça is a distilled spirit made of sugarcane juice, but very different from the distilled sugarcane most of us know and love, rum. Cachaça comes from fresh sugarcane, rather than refined molasses. The result is a clear spirit with a more herbal and sharp flavor, a bit like tequila.
Enough about the beverage, let’s get mixing.
- 1 lime
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- Cachaça of choice
- Slice half of a lime into wedges and put them at the bottom of a Collins or high ball glass.
- Add the 2 teaspoons of sugar, and muddle the lime and sugar together. Pulverize it, baby.
- Fill the rest of the glass with ice cubes.
- Add 2 ounces of Cachaça, stir and enjoy!
