Jetset Afterhours: Taking On Nightlife In Buenos Aires

It doesn’t matter what age you are (okay, maybe it does a little, the over 40-somethings tend to call it a night before 2 am), because the Buenos Aires nightlife gives true meaning to the word nightlife.

Buenos Aires Kika Club

A typical schedule looks something like this (keep in mind the 24-hour clock is used):

21 hrs (9pm) — Nap. This step is essential if you plan on really sticking it out all night.

23 hrs — Meet up with friends for dinner. 11pm is about average for dinner when going out. Most restaurants will be packed at this hour so arrive at bit early if you want a guaranteed seat. Dinner will take at least an hour, account for some sobremesa time.

1am — First bar. It’s still pretty casual at this point, so choose a bar with a fun outside setting whether garden or tables on the sidewalk so you can people watch.

2am — Second bar. Pick a bar, any bar.

3am — Boliche (= discoteca = club). Be ready to dance. Also ladies, heads up, the men here are very aggressive so be on your guard.

6am — Home. Fall into bed and sleep until noon, your next objectives.

Check out two of my favorite bars:

La Princesa

A great mix of the indoor and outdoor, La Princesa is filled with funky decorations, oversized couches, and friendly staff. Makes for a great alternative to the busy, tourist trap Plaza Serrano.

La Presa Buenos Aires

Milion

An enchanting mansion like bar, Gatsby-esque decorations and vibe make for a fun evening! Enjoy food and music inside or wander outside and down a marble staircase for an enclosed, twinkle light, garden experience.

And if you’re truly ready to commit to being a porteño for the night, here are a few boliches for the end of your evening:

Jet

One of the world’s finest clubs, Jet is one of the most exclusive clubs in Buenos Aires. Entrance is restricted, so make sure you’re dressed to impress. If you want to hang with the city’s elites and in-crowds, then hit up Jet.

Jet Club Buenos Aires

Kika

This fun club in Palermo is a blast on Wednesday night, disguised as any sizzling other Saturday night. For a bit more space, get the VIP option. If not, Kika gets crowded.

Kika Club Buenos Aires

Terrazas del Este

With multiple decks and gardens, Terrazas del Este is another posh club approved by the city’s stylish crew. This is a good spot on Wednesday and Saturday nights.

So there you have it. Next time you’re in Buenos Aires plan on hanging with the porteños to get a real taste of Buenos Aires nightlife.

Terrazas Buenos Aires

Hailee Donoghue

Hailee loves Argentina. Her travel style consists of flowy pants and don't forget converses. She never travels without her Swiss Army Knife, it's a pair of scissors, a knife and a wine opener. It's essential.
