Africa is fast becoming known as a top tourist destination, with countries like Kenya, Zambia and South Africa paving the way and creating a new era in tourism. According to a report issued last year by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the international tourism sector now accounts for 8.1% of Africa’s total GDP. Each year, increasing numbers of tourists are flocking to Africa to enjoy its favorable seasons and unique tourist attractions – and this summer will be no exception.
Let’s explore a few of the top travel destinations in Africa and see what unique and exciting activities they have to offer!
1. Zambia: Bathing in The Devil’s Pools
Victoria Falls is one of the world’s natural wonders and home to one of the most spectacular sights in all of Africa. And if you’re visiting Victoria Falls, then you can’t afford to miss The Devil’s Pool – nature’s ultimate infinity pool. Situated next to Livingstone Island where the famous explorer first glimpsed Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke That Thunders), it’s without a doubt one of Africa’s most authentic and exhilarating experiences.
Once there, leap into the pool and, if you’re feeling brave, poke your head over the edge to get an extraordinary view of the 100-meter drop. This hugely popular activity is exciting and breathtaking and it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase living on the edge!
2. Kenya: Africa’s Rising Star
Kenya is home to some of Africa’s most iconic species, attracting tourists from across the globe to its famous savanna safaris and terracotta sunsets. But if you’re after something a little different then head to the capital city of Nairobi, ranked by Rough Guides as the hottest African city to visit this year.
According to the renowned guide, Africa’s fastest-growing metropolis and the beating heart of the continent’s largest economy has been overlooked for far too long. Rich in traditional arts markets and museums of artifacts, the green city is a destination not to be missed. Added bonus? Fans of the classic 1985 movie, Out of Africa, can take a tour around the Karen Blixen Museum, just 10 kilometers from Nairobi’s city center.
3. South Africa: Growing Casino Culture
South Africa’s gaming industry is a vibrant and thriving sector, offering a splash of glitz and glamour to locals and international travelers alike. Designed around specific themes, each casino offers its own unique parallel world away from the run-of-the-mill tourist experience –a great opportunity to escape reality and indulge in a spot of royal treatment. Gaming is not your thing? Most casinos are also lively entertainment complexes with theaters, comedy clubs, restaurants and bars. For your chance to dine with the stars, visit The Monte Casino in Johannesburg, a personal favorite of African poker pro, Ahlee de Lange!

2017 is a year for new destinations, authentic experiences, adventure, and relaxation. Africa embodies all these qualities, from relaxing beach holidays, to safari adventures and glamorous casinos.
