While Cabo, Honolulu, Miami, and Palm Springs are all wonderful destinations to spend your spring break, they are packed and sometimes overdone—yes everyone’s going. Besides, it’s 2014, and time to try something new!
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
As Brazil gains more national attention with the World Cup coming up this summer, the city is developing at a rapid pace. Beat the summer crowd and take the trip now to check out the pre-World Cup preparation and the wonders of beaches and mountains of Rio de Janeiro. There’s no better place to tan those cheeks either, literally.
Nothing says spring break like South America, and Nicaragua is one to go to while it’s still cheap. It’s an up and coming South American country, getting safer to visit and its treasures are begging to be discovered. From the small town of Catarina, visitors can take a dip in the Laguna de Apoyo, a mineral rich and beautiful volcanic lake. With the colossal volcano in the backdrop, you are bound to boast of the winning spring break.
Blue Lagoon Island, The Bahamas
Care to swim with the dolphins anyone? If doing so is on your bucket list, here is the perfect place. Just three miles from Nassau, Blue Lagoon sits quietly away from the tourist bustle. Turquoise clear waters, native palm trees, and soft white sand are just a few of the secluded island’s wonders.
South Padre Island, Texas
Right at the coastal tip of Texas, South Padre is not your everyday Spring Break getaway. The island is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico, giving Texans and visitors alike a diverse choice of activities and food, including good ol’ Texan barbeque. South Padre is a true hidden gem, I mean you would’ve never guessed white sand and surfing here, would you?
Las Vegas, Nevada
Not the beachy type, but still need some UV rays? Ok, I know what you’re thinking. But Vegas is one of those places that ensure good times regardless of the season. Though it’s a pretty popular spring break destination, Sin City gives you endless options from larger than life pool parties to its unmatched nightlife. Take a visit to the notorious Spring Break Party hosted by the Palms hotel. And for West Coasters like me, Vegas is the best quick and affordable trip out there.
